SUMMARY:acahkosak: Indigenous Star Philosophy with nehiyaw/Cree Knowledge Keeper/Cultural Advisor Joseph Naytowhow
DESCRIPTION:$90/person or $325/family. 2 hours(Register early. Limited registration for session) \n\n\n\nThe word acahk means ‘star’ and ‘soul’ in the nehiyaw-itapsinowin (Cree worldview). Increasingly\, Indigenous people the world over are sharing their understanding of cosmology from their respective cultures. For example ‘mistāpew’ (giant) as explained by Wilfred Buck\, Indigenous star lore expert\, speaks to the spiritual teacher/trickster/hero named wihsakicahk who plays a vital role in storytelling circles throughout Mother Earth/Canada. As the prominent figure in the night sky\, ‘mistāpew’\, or wisahkicahk is also Orion in Greek mythology. The nehiyawak tell our people we become stars and travel along the Milky Way after one has crossed over from this earthly existence. \n\n\n\nDo you feel edventurous? Come and explore the grassland night sky from an Indigenous worldview. Healthy snacks provided. Bring your water bottle and something to sit on. \n\n\n\nRegistration cut-off 5 days prior to event. Full refund within 10 days of event. After this date $50 administration fee retained per party registered. Participants must be 12 yrs+. Note: In case of unfavourable viewing or inclement weather session will shift to Saturday evening.
