Join Joseph Naytowhow longtime outdoor educator and multidisciplinary artist for a guided nature walk conducted through story, song and traditional teachings of the land. Participants will journey to understand ourselves as integrally interrelated and as stewards of the land. In studio, Diana Chabros, seasoned visual artist and Kathryn Ricketts, experienced movement artist, will support participants in distilling their experience visually using humble materials and intuitive techniques as well as through embodied explorations of stories, songs, and movement. Participants can expect to transform their land knowledge into lasting impressions moving forward. Catered lunch provided. Evening campfire (pending fire ban) and tent talk interviews of locals broadcast live for podcast. Registrants will use their own vehicle in the Park. No artistic experience necessary! Group size will be small so space is limited. Book your accommodation well in advance!
NEW! Home and Away is a community building project integrating story, paint and movement towards a deeper understanding of place, relations and land. This project is a mini pilot with partial funding from Sk-Arts which will lay the foundation for a larger project slated for Spring/Summer 2026. The entire project is inspired by Diana’s series of large Samskāra paintings of the grasslands which visually document real stories gathered from individuals’ experiences of the land and its resident beings.
The artist facilitators are:
Joseph Naytowhow, nehiyaw/Cree Knowledge Keeper, cultural advisor, multidisciplinary artist
Kathryn Ricketts, dance/movement artist, professor
Diana Chabros, visual artist/Yoga educator/entrepreneur
